Bringing a newly bought pet home and starting a pet-raising life is a very happy thing for the owners. However, if the owners are raising a dog for the first time and lack certain experience, they may encounter a lot of trouble! Many novice owners wonder why puppies and cats start to get sick within a few days of arriving home?
In fact, dogs and cats need time to adapt to a new environment. If dogs and cats are timid or easily frightened, they may get sick. In addition, novice owners are not very good at taking care of dogs and cats. If it happens to be a puppy (cat), they don't know what to pay attention to.
1. Change the original food.
Changing dog (cat) food as soon as you get home, not following the principle of gradually changing the original dog food to the new dog (cat) food, resulting in the puppies (cats) being unable to adapt to the stomach and intestines, often causing digestive system diseases, leading to diarrhea in dogs (cats). If there are latent infections of parasites and viruses, the disease will occur, exacerbating the death of puppies (cats)
2. Unscientific feeding methods.
When puppies first get home, they must not be fed the food we eat, which can easily lead to picky eating, malnutrition, and incomplete development in puppies, because people eat a lot of oil and high salt, which is not nutritious for puppies at all. Besides, puppies need to supplement nutrition. Insufficient nutrition can easily lead to stunted development and excessive thinness. Therefore, the staple food should still be high-quality, healthy and nutritious puppy food. If the nutrition is up, the development will naturally be better. When feeding, pay attention to eating small meals and not overeating! Irregular time, irregular quantity, hungry and full meals, within 3 days, the gastrointestinal tract of puppies (cats) will not be disordered, and it is impossible not to get sick. Therefore, during the observation period of puppies and cats arriving home, it is best to feed them only dog and cat food, eat less and more meals, do not feed them other foods, and drink warm water. It is not too much to repeat important things!
3. Immediate training.
It is not suitable for puppies who have just arrived home to be trained immediately. They should be allowed to adapt to the environment and the owner first, cultivate feelings, and then train. The golden training period for dogs is when they are 3-6 months old. Dogs in this period are very easy to train. You can teach dogs to urinate and defecate at fixed points, shake hands, etc., and the effect will be better if they are trained with snacks!
4. Not adapting to the new environment and having a stress reaction.
When puppies and kittens leave their original living environment and mother and come to a strange environment, they will feel lonely and helpless, and miss their original owners. If they are not carefully cared for, cats and dogs will get sick. Especially puppies, who have just been weaned, have a strong stress reaction. If the food and room temperature do not meet the requirements, it is easy to have a stress reaction and get sick.
5. Bathing puppies and cats
Puppies and cats that have just arrived home should not be bathed immediately, because their resistance is relatively poor when they first arrive home. If they are bathed at this time, they will easily get sick. Therefore, you cannot bathe them. You have to wait until the dog has adapted and received three shots of vaccine before you can bathe them. If it is too dirty during this period, you can use some dry powder or a towel to wipe the dirty parts of the dog.
6. Going out and contacting other pets and being infected with diseases.
Many pet owners do not pay attention to vaccinating puppies and cats. Even if they have received the first shot of vaccine for puppies and cats, the protection rate is not 100% because the immunity is not strong enough. Therefore, it is best not to take newly purchased puppies and cats, especially those around 3 months old, out to play before they have completed the three-shot dog-cat vaccine vaccination. Do not contact other pets, and pet owners should not contact other dog and cat owners to prevent cross-infection of epidemic diseases.
For puppies and cats, if you can avoid the above 6 aspects, then the possibility of their safe survival is very high. Are you willing to make some changes for your young pets?
