What is feline FPV? What are the symptoms?

FPV is the abbreviation of feline distemper virus. Feline distemper is a highly contagious and fatal viral infection, especially for young cats. FPV is a highly contagious virus that is mainly spread through direct contact with infectious agents or infected environments. After infection, the virus first replicates in lymphoid tissue and bone marrow, then enters the blood and damages the intestines, respiratory tract, nervous system and hematopoietic organs.

    Clinical symptoms is:
  • fever
  • diarrhea
  • Vomit
  • Lack of energy
  • anorexia

When diarrhea occurs, it means that the animal is in the late stage of the disease, with blood in the feces, severe dehydration, anemia, and death in severe cases.

How does FPV spread?

Direct contact: Feline plague is mainly spread through contact. When cats come into contact with the saliva, vomit, and excrement of sick cats, they are easily infected. In addition, the owner may also carry germs, so the soles of shoes should be disinfected quickly after returning home and placed out of reach of kittens. In catteries, multi-cat households and shelters, the chances of virus transmission are higher due to direct contact.

Indirect contact: Cats depositing viruses on other objects through their body secretions is also a common route of infection. People can also spread the virus between cats through their hands and clothing.

Negative: Within the detection window, only the control line (C) has a purple-red band.

Positive: Within the detection window, both the test line (T) and the control line (C) appear purple-red bands.
